“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on, the crown of righteousness awaits me…”
2 Timothy 4:7–8
With deep sadness, yet with the hope of being reunited in eternity, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Timotei Selagea, to the Lord.
Timotei was born on October 26, 1942, in the town of Vulcan, Hunedoara County, to Petru and Ana Selagea, and was the fourth of the family’s nine children. He grew up alongside his siblings: Lidia, Aneta, Titu, David, Cornel, Iosif, Teofil, and Samuel. He spent his childhood in Vulcan and Ghelari, then continued his studies at the Vocational School in Hunedoara. Later, in 1973, he graduated from the Master Craftsmen’s School in Bucharest.
One of the most important moments of his life took place in 1962, when he accepted the Lord and professed his faith through baptism, being baptized by Pastor Dan Bătrînu in Cluj-Napoca. His faith in God would guide his steps and remain the foundation of his life.
In 1966, God brought into his life the woman who would become his life partner, Ligia, and the following year the two were married. God blessed them with 59 years of marriage—years of love, faithfulness, trials, and blessings—during which they walked together on life’s journey.
In 1970, their family was blessed with their first child, a daughter, Daniela, and in 1975, the Lord gave them their second child, Cristian, who went to be with the Lord two years before his father.
From his youth, Timotei had cherished the desire to go to America. In August 1984, this dream came true when the family emigrated to the United States. They lived in Chicago for a year, and in 1985 they moved to Atlanta, Georgia, the place that would become their home.
Timotei was a man of integrity and a God-fearing man, devoted to the ministries entrusted to him. He served as a choir and orchestra conductor and as a committee member, dedicating his gifts and time to the service of God and the church. He was also a man deeply devoted to his family, always ready to help when called upon—and often without waiting to be asked.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ligia; their daughter Daniela, along with her husband, Sorin; his daughter-in-law, Ioana; his brothers David, Teofil, and Samuel; as well as his grandchildren Alice, Danielle, Nicolette, and Gabriel; and his great-grandchildren Natalie, Liam, Adeline, Skylar, and Aurora.
Surrounded by his extended family, Timotei Selagea went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2026. He left in the hearts of those who knew him a sweet fragrance and the example of a life worth emulating—a legacy of faith, love for family, service, and generosity, which we wish to pass on to the generations that follow us.
Today we bid a sorrowful farewell to the one who was our husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, but not without hope. The faith that guided his life gives us, too, the hope that this parting is not forever.
We joyfully look forward to the day we will be reunited.
Rest in peace, our dear Timotei, until the day we meet again!
A memorial service commemorating Timotei’s life will be held on Friday 9/4/26 at 7:00pm at First Romanian Baptist church of Atlanta. The funeral and burial service will take place Saturday 9/5/26 at 11:00am at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel and Gardens located on 3481 Hamilton Mill Rd. Buford, GA 30519.
