Why Sunday School? Why Bible Study? Because, as members of the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, God longs to commune with us. However we choose to manifest our daily devotion to Him, we know that “From Him, through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever.” Romans 11:36 Such a calling, Christ calls a holy calling, a call specific to His children. And so, here at FRBCA, we invite you to live out His vision. Together, this is our mission.
From God’s Word, we understand that before his ascent to heaven, Jesus Christ commanded his disciples to “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20.
We, as His redeemed and loved children, having received a salvation so wonderful, respond to this calling when we follow His will, one day at a time. For this reason, at FRBCA, we facilitate the teaching and learning of Scripture through small Bible study classes or large unified church groups. This work, in The Lord’s church body aims to teach and train his vessels. It is a work that nourishes all believers. As we grow, the inner person, the one now born of Christ, can place his faith and trust in Jesus’s words, when he tells his disciples to “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11: 29. Following Christ in this way leaves behind any possible burden of doing so, instead of a burden, becoming a blessing.
Jesus Christ wants to satisfy our lives with His goodness, and so He waits for us. When we seek Him in sincerity and in truth, He transforms us. We become like Him, a place where we find refuge and rest for our souls. This very act, the Holy Spirit makes possible in us, through His Word as it is written: “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Colossians 3:16. In doing so, we bring praise to God and joy to those who surround us. Our testimony then builds in strength, so that we may be so bold as to share the good news whenever, wherever, to whomever.
And so, we press on, taking our cue from the First Church in Jerusalem, from those first believers who daily meditated upon four fundamental precepts: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Here we see that the fellowship of these believers sat anchored in the Holy Spirit that lent itself to the ‘apostles’ teaching… Power floods from the Word of God and Jesus Christ gifted us with it so that we might claim victory through Him. When the Holy Scriptures occupy first place in our lives as believers, we can declare with assurance God’s promised triumph against any temptation or worry that might assault us. When, as Psalmist David declared in Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” we rejoice! We invite you to take this step, to taste and see that the Lord is good, that He wishes to bless us, and that having been blessed by him, we in turn may bless others.
When we seek to live a life filled with the power of God’s Truth, we can battle life’s storms. We receive this assurance without conditions, as Wise Solomon observed that we are to “Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.” Proverbs 4:13. What more precious commodity can we claim but life, and Our Lord Jesus offers us an abundant life, lived in Him. Come, Feast, See and be satisfied. Don’t delay, visit us today. Our prayer is that the Lord Jesus may help us to ground ourselves in Him, to grow in Him so that we may glorify Him! Amen!
